How to use your website in the time of COVID-19 crisis

Many business owners in these hard days are thinking about what to do with their websites. We'd like to provide our readers with information that will help them to figure it out.

In these hard days we are encountering a new realm of the unknown, and thinking about such trivial things about how to get more visitors to your site sounds pathetic. However, a website is a powerful tool, and I want to tell you about things you should mind during this crisis.

Hopefully, that won't be much affected is Internet access and your website become your main asset. And now is a momentum to make updates on your site.

In the past two weeks, we got messages from our clients telling how were changed their plans during this outbreak. Consider putting the information about the changes in your business patterns on your website.

For the owners of an e-commerce site, if they are encountering delays or any other schedule changes, this information should be published on their website. People will understand if you will have to make these changes if they are aware of it. If you have shipped goods in 24 hours before, but cannot do it now, your customers need to know it.

If you have an office or shop, you may have to close it. Inform your clients about it. It's frustrating when people check your working hours and see that you closed the o when they come to your door. Put the notice on your site and your door.

If your business depends on in-person appointments and these are not possible, then you should set a notification on your site and offer to meet via an online meeting tool.

If you work with your clients in their homes, you probably don't want to visit them right now, and they will not expect you during this time. You may mind that your site has the information about it as well.

Now many schools are closed, and parents need information about how to participate in distant learning and when school will resume. School principals should put this information on the website.

Are you a healthcare provider? If you need to inform your patient about changes in your policies, your website is the right place!

Pop-up is a king now.

Pop-ups were not in favour among webmasters who care about their visitors. They are annoying and causing distractions to UX. But this time important alerts must be visible. If you care about your customers and employees or to prevent the spread of disease, use a pop-up to show your essential information explicitly.

Some tips for the use of pop-ups:
  • Keep it short. Inform about the changes and the timing of these changes. Put further information behind the link.
  • Make sure to add it on every page. Your visitors could enter your website on other pages than your homepage.
  • Regularly update the information.

Your website is a critical touchpoint to show information about your business developments during this rapidly changing time. You will serve your clients responsively if you keep them updated.

If you feel that you are overwhelmed with other tasks, we will be happy to help you.
